Detachment Staff

Todd Egnor, Detachment Leader (FSO-DL) & Vice Flotilla Commander (VFC)

The Detachment Leader is in charge of the program, and is responsible for it operation and long – term success. Mr. Egnor's twenty plus years experience in the tall ship community, managing and training volunteer crews, bring the experience required to help develop and lead the program.

Mr. Egnor is qualified as Instructor, Vessel Examiner, Boat Crew, and watch stander aboard CGC Eagle as Quartermaster of the Watch. He has received the Auxiliary Sustained Service Award (4), Annual Award for Operations Service, and Marine Safety Training Ribbon.

Erin Zagursky, Campus Liaison Officer

As the Campus Liaison Officer, Erin Zagursky is responsible for liaising and developing positive relationships with university administration, academic and support departments, and students. She also currently serves as Flotilla 67’s Personnel Services Officer.

Ms. Zagursky has worked at the College of William and Mary since 2006 as an information manager and writer for the Office of University Relations. Before coming to the College, she worked with the U.S. Air Force as a public affairs specialist, completing the Defense Information School’s Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course in 2002. Ms. Zagursky joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in early 2009 and has been working to complete her boat crew training qualifications.

Harvey Langholtz, Faculty Liaison


Harvey Langholtz retired from the US Coast Guard in 1993 with the rank of Commander and joined the faculty at William and Mary. His Coast Guard career included tours afloat, teaching, as a Group Commander, planner, computer specialist, Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Institute, and on loan to the State Department for service as an American Diplomat at the United Nations. He is a Professor in William and Mary's Department of Psychology, where he teaches courses on Decision Theory. He sails his 18-foot sailboat on the James River.

Carl Pearson, Flotilla Training Officer (FSO-MT)

A long-time Coast Guard Auxiliarist, Carl Pearson brings a wealth of organizational and technical knowledge to the Detachment as the Flotilla's Member Training Officer and a lead instructor in a variety of surface operations areas.  

Mr. Pearson also currently serves as a Division Communications Services Officer, and has previously served as a Flotilla Commander.  He is a qualified small boat Coxswain, and has served as an in-port officer of the day on several 87-foot Coast Guard cutters home-ported in Portsmouth, VA. His awards include the Auxiliary Sustained Service Award (10), Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation, and others.

Dan Burns, Flotilla Commander (FC)

As Flotilla Commander of Flotilla 67, Williamsburg's local Coast Guard Auxiliary unit, Dan Burns is the senior officer ultimately responsible for the Detachment.  Mr. Burns is a qualified small boat crewman, and is also active in the Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Community.

Mr. Burn's previous assignments include Vice Flotilla Commander and Division Secretary/Records Officer.


Student Leadership

Alex Wright, Detachment Commander (DC)

The Detachment Commander serves as the unit’s senior student leader, reporting directly to the FSO-DL. The DC is responsible for the general leadership and administration required to ensure the success and well-being of the unit and its members, and is accountable for all Detachment activities and actions.

Alex Wright is a member of the class of 2010 and is a double major in Modern Languages and History. He joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in the Spring of 2009 in hopes of both finding a way to further serve his campus, community, and country, and hopefully gain leadership expereince. The Detachment has provided him with many great opportunities in all these areas, as well as a chance to earn qualifications that are recognized throughout the federal government.

Austin Bayer, Detachment Executive Officer (DXO), Detachment Member in Charge of Secretary/Records

The Detachment Executive Officer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Detachment.  The Detachment Executive Officer reports directly to the Detachment Commander and carries out that leader’s instructions to all fellow Detachment Members.  This includes enforcing Detachment regulations; making sure all Detachment Members are well-informed and up to speed on any and all assignments; and to insure that the Detachment as a whole operates effectively. 

Austin Bayer is a Junior and a member of the class of 2011.  A History Major and member of the Queens’ Guard/Pershing Rifles, Mr. Bayer joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in early 2009 to meet new challenges and help give back to his community while at school and plans to join the military upon graduation.

David Kraemer, Communications Services Officer

David Kraemer is a senior and a member of the class of 2010.  An Environmental Policy and Government double-major, Mr. Kraemer is a member of the Marine Safety and Environmental Protection community, where he has completed training in related emergency management.  

Mr. Kraemer was selected for appointment as an officer in 2008, and serves concurrently as a Flotilla Communications Services officer.  His video introduction is available on YouTube.
